Perfect

“The Lord will perfect that which concerneth me: thy mercy, O Lord, endureth for ever: forsake not the works of thine own hands.” (Psalm 138:8)

What do you think it is that the Lord is perfecting in you? What, above all else, “concerneth” you? It is your salvation. Due to His never ending, all fulfilling mercy, God is perfecting each and every one of His children.

“Perfect” comes from the word, “gamar”. It means to “to end, come to an end, complete, cease”.
God is ending the carnal man, the man we created, and He is restoring His creation to its original condition. This is a renovation project. God is perfecting, or ending, the old man and restoring us to the “new man”. Salvation, in that sense, is going back to the future.

“That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts; And be renewed in the spirit of your mind; And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness” (Ephesians 4:22-24).

The word “renewed” in the above verse from Ephesians means to “renovate”. Putting off the old man, the carnal man that we created, and putting on the renewed (renovated) man, the man that was made in the image of God.

Finally, the Psalmist asks God, “forsake not the works of thine own hands”. The Psalmist is speaking about us. We are the work of God’s hands! Please Dear God, in your infinite mercy! Please do not forsake this sinner!

Our salvation is what concerns us most. Without it, we don’t know God. We don’t know truth. We don’t know love. We don’t know the way. We don’t know life.
