Liberty
“And I will walk at liberty: for I seek thy precepts” (Psalm
119:45)
As citizens of the United States we walk in liberty because
we adhere to a constitution. Laws are made intended to keep us within the scope
of that constitution.
In the physical
and spiritual domains, we walk in liberty because we adhere to the word of
God. God’s laws are intended to keep us within the scope of His word.
Liberty is freedom from sin and its consequences. We free
ourselves from sin by adhering to the precepts and principles of our religion,
by being, believing and living the word of God. It is impossible to sin while
in the word of God. Righteousness and unrighteousness cannot comingle.
God’s
laws are intended to keep us from the act of sinning. They delivers us, “from
the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God”
(Romans 8:21).
God’s law without liberty is death and destruction. God gave
us His Son for atonement for when we do sin.
Some confuse liberty with an unleashed, unfettered will. It
isn’t. Liberty doesn’t mean you can do whatever you please.
Liberty is the freedom and protection within the parameters
of a belief and purpose. Liberty doesn’t constrain, it protects and propels us
forward. It is a conduit towards a purpose. The purpose as a citizen in the
United States is Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness. The purpose as a
citizen of Heaven is God.
“The LORD is the portion of mine inheritance and of my cup:
thou maintainest my lot” (Psalm 16:5).
