“Thy righteousness is like the great mountains; thy
judgments are a great deep: O Lord, thou preservest man and beast.” (Psalm
36:6)
Man tends to think of God’s role in their life in terms of
before and after, mainly after. Man thinks of being a creation of God and of where
he is going, Heaven or Hell. He comprehends God’s participation in the past and
future. But the now is something else.
“O Lord, thou preservest man and beast”, the word, “preservest”
comes from the Hebrew, “Yasha”. The KJV Bible also transliterated yasha as, “to
save”, “rescue”, and “deliver”. All of these actions are in the present tense.
God plays a very active role in all of our lives right now.
Not only our lives, but God sustains, maintains, preserves and saves all of His
creations every second of all time. All things would cease to be if God removed
His hand.
Too many people think that when God rested on the 7th
day after creation, that His active involvement with His creation stopped.
“And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had
made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made.”
(Genesis 2:2).
Where the creation ended, the sustaining began.
“Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient
times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I
will do all my pleasure.” (Isaiah 46:10)
“For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper
than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and
spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and
intents of the heart. Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his
sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we
have to do.” (Hebrews 4:12-13).
Prayers aren’t a wake-up call or some way to get God’s
attention. You’ve got His attention. He is in your life. Prayers are a
conversation with the Supreme God. It’s something we all need and that God
hopes for.
