This Is The Day

Almost every Christian is familiar with the following verse, “This is the day which the Lord hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it” (Psalm 118:24). We’ve all quoted it at some point in time. Usually, this verse is applied to the day we are in, the new day as it dawns. While it’s true that the Lord makes every day, whether that day is good or bad, with rain, sunshine, wind, or snow, using the verse in this fashion actually weakens the meaning and the context of it.

Here is the complete stanza from Psalm 118 from which it was plucked.
“The stone which the builders refused is become the head stone of the corner. This is the Lord's doing; it is marvellous in our eyes. This is the day which the Lord hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it. Save now, I beseech thee, O Lord: O Lord, I beseech thee, send now prosperity. Blessed be he that cometh in the name of the Lord: we have blessed you out of the house of the Lord. God is the Lord, which hath shewed us light: bind the sacrifice with cords, even unto the horns of the altar.” (Psalm 118:22-27).

This Old Testament verse speaks of Jesus Christ. The day that He made is our Sabbath.
Jesus Christ himself quotes from here when He said, “Did ye never read in the scriptures, The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner: this is the Lord's doing, and it is marvellous in our eyes?” (Matthew 21:42)

“Save now”, our Savior and salvation have come!

“Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord” (Hosanna in the highest) were the shouts from the multitudes that went before and after Jesus as he rode into town.

This entire stanza is prophecy fulfilled. It is of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior.

Yes, this truly is the day which the Lord hath made and we will rejoice and be glad in it! Why? Because prophecy has been fulfilled! Christ has come! Christ has offered the world salvation!
