Faith and Belief

“Faith is God's gift on the behalf of Christ, who purchased for us not only the blessedness which is the object of faith, but the grace of faith itself: the ability or disposition to believe is from God” (Matthew Henry/Commentary excerpt on Ephesians 6).

Did you catch what Matthew Henry just said? Faith and belief are gifts from God. These are not things of our design. God gives us the ability to believe, He gives us the ability to have faith in Him. These gifts are freely given, but not all will receive them.

Faith and belief cannot be learned. There is no amount of proof, education, intellectual or academic process in which someone can learn, attain or acquire faith and belief.

God must give it. We must receive it.
