Is It The Sin Or The Offense?

What causes our remorse and compunction over sin? Is it the realization that sin is bad, that its some moral depravity, or the breaking of a commandment?

Or is what causes our remorse the realization that sin is a direct offense to God?

In the first scenario, you are the focal point. In the second scenario, God is.

So, think about it. Is it the transgression itself and how it affects you and possibly others that bothers you most?

Or is it the knowledge that your sin is a direct breach of love and trust with God?

“But he turned, and said unto Peter, Get thee behind me, Satan: thou art an offence unto me: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but those that be of men.” (Matthew 16:23)
