Lose His Life
“And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me. For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: but whosoever will lose his life for my sake, the same shall save it” (Luke 9:23-24).
cross
The key word here is daily. Most Christians deny themselves once a week on Sunday mornings between 11AM and noon. After that, the cross is laid down and the carnal man picks up his old self and usual ways and proceeds onward in this world.
Christ gave His life for each of us at the cross. We are in turn to give our lives to Christ during this life.
To, “take up his cross daily, and follow me” is a commitment to Christ and self. It is taking our religion openly and exposing our belief and faith to the world. We do this knowing that the world will hate us for it hated and killed Christ. But whether death comes literally or metaphorically our lives will be eternal when lost for Christ sake.
The display of our devotion to Christ comes from bearing the cross. It lays bare our heart and love to our Lord. The world will hate us, but the world is temporary.
“…but whosoever will lose his life for my sake, the same shall save it”. Salvation comes only at the cross so think twice before you ever lay it down in pursuit of what this life has to offer.
