“He that keepeth his mouth keepeth his life: but he that openeth wide his lips shall have destruction” (Proverbs 13:3).

To keep our mouth is to guard it with faithfulness towards God and His word. We should always filter the intent and meaning of what we say through Him. It can be one of the most difficult things to do. The carnal self will rebel and want to offer up, “a piece of my mind”. Don’t.

Notice who reaps the benefit whomever heeds this Proverb. It is the speaker, not the listener. So when we are Hell bent on speaking our mind, the Proverb is trying to prevent us from being Hell sent by our own words.
